About Symposium-CCIS

The Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South East Asia, [COMSATS] is an international organization. It aims to reduce the ever-growing gap between the developed and developing world through useful applications of science and technology. The Third World Academy of Sciences [TWAS] initiated the proposal for the formation of COMSATS under the leadership of Nobel Laureate, Dr. Abdus Salam. Foundation-conference of COMSATS, held at Islamabad, on 4-5 October 1994, was attended by the representatives from thirty-six countries. The participants included twenty-two Ministers, members of the diplomatic community of Islamabad and representatives of international organizations, like UNESCO, UNIDO, UNEP, and the World Bank. The emergence of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology [CIIT] was result of the noble ideas of this International community to promote science and technology in developing countries, which became functional in 1998. The Cabinet has now approved its status as COMSATS University. Within short period of time COMSATS achieved 6th position in ranking by Higher Education Commission in 2009-10, 2nd in citation and 3rd by h-index. The campus is ISO certified as a proof of its compliance to quality requirements.

CIIT, Abbottabad Campus

The CIIT established its Abbottabad campus in July 2001, which became functional and the first academic session started on 3rd September 2001 at Tobe Camp on the land and buildings of Pakistan Military Academy Kakul, donated by President Parvaiz Musharraf. This Institute is attracting the students not only from the Hazara Division but also from all over the Country. CIIT Abbottabad has come up well and is developing fast. In a short span of time the embryonic outfit has been transformed a model institute to a modern I.T university. There has been a wholehearted response from local as well as non local population. CIIT Abbottabad and Hazara have already become synonymous entities. The campus is now ISO 9001:2000 certified as a proof of its compliance to quality requirements standards.
