Mathematics is a key subject and the highest standards in the subject are needed to develop an excellent university. Mastering Mathematics is a prerequisite to develop an excellent academic foundation in science and education at large. Department of Mathematics provides service courses in different departments of CIIT Abbottabad, in the most professional manner. The faculty also interacts in research with the scientists working in other disciplines of this institute. Research groups are working in Theoretical and Computational Fluid Mechanics, Algebra and Analysis. The Department of Mathematics is emerging as a center of excellence. This department has 12 Ph.D. as permanent faculty; some other members of the department are actively pursuing their research work. Within a short period of ten years of its existence CIIT Abbottabad has the honor of being the platform for producing more than 100 research papers. COMSATS Institute of Information Technology stands 6th in ranking for research productivity conducted by HEC for 2009 and 2010. Major contribution is from CIIT Abbottabad.

The department has initiated MS leading to Ph.D. program both in Pure and Applied Mathematics with special emphasis on Fluid Mechanics since Fall 2004.

Research is being conducted on:
  • Computational Fluid Mechanics
  • Relativity
  • Number Theory
  • Topology
  • Group Theory and Generalizations
  • Functional Analysis
  • Complex Analysis
  • Mathematical Finance
  • Fuzzy Algebra

The department organized an international conference in June 2003. The conference focused on theoretical and computational fluid dynamics. More than 200 renowned scientists from all over the world including 7 International speakers attended this conference and more than 28 talks were delivered. Under continuous series of International Conferences department is gathering eminent scientists from all over the world.

In 2005 the department also organized One day workshop on Computational and Industrial Mathematics chaired by the well-known Prof. Dr. Q.K. Ghori and three scientists from research organizations shared their knowledge.

A series of Two days symposia on “Computational Complexities, Innovations and Solutions (CCIS)” was held in the department of Mathematics, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad, under the umbrella of TechnoMoot in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011.

The primary objective of the current symposium is to bring together computational scientists from all fields of the traditional sciences, i.e., Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine and all branches of Engineering in order to share methods and ideas to regroup original contributions from these fields.

TechnoMoot 2012

TechnoMoot comprises of five different activities simultaneously organized to benefit students, learners and practitioners alike.
